Anyone can make a sandwich but not all can make a delicious sandwich. You get the difference?
Before we dive into the topic of this article, let’s give credit to the person who invented this comfort food of all times, a British aristocrat who is also anavid gambler.
According to food historians, in his quest to have undistracted gambling, John Montagu ordered a type of food that will keep him concentrating on the game. That was in 1762 and that’s when a sandwich was invented. John did not want food that could be eaten with forks or spoons.
A sandwich is a quick and easy-to-make type of food which you can make it even if you are busy. You do not need to be a pro chef and neither do you need to have excellent cooking skills to make a sandwich.
You can get creative with your ingredients to spruce up your sandwich.
Well, although it’s a simple and quick type of food to make, you can still make errors which could spoil your overall experience.
So, to help you avoid those errors when making your sandwich, Village-bakery has prepared these tips for you.
Choose the Right Bread
Bread is the basis of your sandwich so you should choose not only the right one but also quality bread. Because a sandwich needs to be moist, you need to choose soft fluffy bread.
As a rule of thumb, if the filling is moist, choose drier and denser bread. You may then toast the bread, warm it up or leave it cold. The reason for toasting the bread is to bring out the sweetness. When it comes to choosing the right bread, you can use the traditional white bread or the healthier brown one. You can also replace your bread with a leaf of Boston lettuce.
Spread Out
Most people think that sandwich spread is meant to add flavor but it’s more than that. Sandwich spreads can also add moisture and creaminess to your sandwich. You can use mayo and mustard if you like or try other healthier alternatives including pesto or hung curd.
Remove Wetness
We assume you have added sauce, mayo and other ingredients to your sandwich. Spread them until the sandwich is completely covered. Get some wet ingredients (tomatoes or cucumber) and use them separately.Add them before you start enjoying the sandwich. Put a layer of cheese or meat between the bread and wet ingredients (cucumber or tomato in that case). You can also use roasted meat through oven to make the sandwich more delicious.
Replace Traditional Ingredients to Make a Change
Well, traditional ingredients such as tomato and lettuce can make a moist, crunchy and fresh sandwich, but when stored for a long time, they can make the bread soggy due to the high moisture in them.
You can substitute the traditional ingredients with roasted peppers and carrots for the crunch. You can also use spinach or cabbage in place of lettuce to make a fresh change.
Prevent the Sandwich from Falling Apart
Ever tried to bite a sandwich that keeps on falling apart? How does it feel to have all the ingredients falling apart? It feels annoying, right?
Well, you can prevent your sandwich from falling apart by using a certain trick. Sometimes you may have made the perfect sandwich but lack friction.
It gets better.
The problem could be the way you arranged your ingredients so it’s not a big deal. Just find the slippery ingredients such as tomato or cucumber and remove them. Pick your sandwich spreads, in that case, could be smashed avocados and spread it on the slice of the bread. Add a layer of rough greens like Lettuce and then add a layer of your slippery ingredients (tomato or cucumber).
Add multiple layers of rough greens and slippery ingredients interchangeably. This way, your sandwich will not fall apart when you bite it since there is friction between the rough greens and the slippery ingredients.
Lastly, try to keep everything simple. Although you may want to be creative with your sandwich, you need to avoid overstuffing it with too many ingredients or sauces. To add the finishing touch, you could add some seasoning. But ensure not to overstuff them as well.
