Bored with your ab routine and want to mix things up a bit? These lower belly exercises not only strengthen and tone your midsection, but they’re more fun than crunches!
1. Try Jennifer Johnson’s Cosmo Body Trainer
This is an awesome group of exercises taught by Jennifer Johnson, a dance/cardio fitness trainer. She’s created a group of five ab exercises that are challenging and far from boring!
2. Do Some Funky Planks
Greatist has a ton of plank exercises, a total of 47 variations! The plank works almost every part of the body, including arms, shoulders, legs and glutes—in addition to your abs. So, with these planks, you switch things up and get an all-over workout.
3. Play Sports
Where is it written that ab work must be performed at the gym? Why not get it in while you’re doing a sport you enjoy. For example, volleyball is awesome for your core, as you move, spike and twist in a multitude of vigorous and aggressive ways. When you kayak, you rotating the body as you paddle, building up the core, arms, and shoulders.
Then, there’s a night of dancing—another great core workout that doesn’t feel like a workout! Try belly dancing or Latin dancing, as their hip gyrations target your core, abs and obiques. 5. 15-Minute Abs
Strapped for time? Check out Women’s Health online, where you’ll find three lower belly exercises that can be done in 15 minutes! This workout, designed by Ashley Ntansah of Club H Fitness in New York City, targets your entire abdomen, especially the midsection. You’ll not only be working your core, but you’ll see results it in your shoulders, arms, legs, and glutes as well.
See? Ab workouts need not be boring to be effective. They can be fun!
