Yoga and Pilates are two forms of exercise that have been gaining a lot of popularity over the years. When we are talking about Pilates Vs Yoga, it’s not an easy task to determine which is better, per se. The purpose of both these is somewhat similar; they help build stamina, build strength and help lose weight. Yoga

Pilates involves doing a series of postures that aid in improving the physical and medical condition of an individual. Pilates helps to increase the core strength and also improves agility. It helps to shape up the stomach and thigh muscles of an individual. Like yoga, different postures have different levels of difficulty and it requires a lot of training.

One of the most important benefits is that Pilates is very effective for weight reduction. The muscles also develop; you can become more flexible and agile. Like Yoga, Pilates also involves combining the mind and body, bringing inner peace.

The difficulty of yoga varies from posture to posture. Whether the posture is difficult or not, yoga does help burn calories. An hour of power yoga can burn up to 400 calories and an hour of normal yoga can burn 200 calories. A study carried out by National Cancer Institute proved that yoga helps to lose weight; this study involved 15500 healthy individuals, both males and females. A group was involved in yoga for your years, one half hour class each week, these individual lost weights. Whereas the group with was not involved in yoga gained weight. The strong connection between the mind and the body makes you more aware about your health and what you eat.  

Pilates for Weight Loss

Pilate exercises require a lot of strength and control, there is a lot of use of lower back and hips. The journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy published a study which said that those individuals involved in Pilates would not have any chronic back pain. However, in case of weight, there has been no proper study to show the result of Pilates and whether it helps in weight loss. However, normal difficulty level exercise can burn up to 200 calories whereas, a more advanced exercise can burn up to 375 calories.

Yoga Vs Pilates – Other Benefits

The fact is that both Yoga and Pilates are very beneficial for the physical and medical health of an individual, but there are some differences that set both these exercise forms apart. Yoga provides more cardio benefit as compared to Pilates, though, the more advanced moves might provide some cardio benefits but simple basic postures may not.

We talked about increase flexibility in case of both Yoga and Pilates. Eight weeks of doing yoga can increase the flexibility up to 24 percent; in case of Pilates it is lower. However, Pilates is excellent for strengthening the abdominal muscles.  Yoga also gives you inner peace, it makes you feel more relaxed and at peace.
