Yoga Workout for Your… Face!

If you do yoga, you probably already know that it improves muscle memory and tone to keep you looking fit. And some people are turning to yoga to help them work out a surprising part of their body – their face! Face yoga is said to help plump lips, reduce wrinkles and give your whole face a lift.

How Does It Work?

Some wonder if face yoga really works, but all you have to do is try it, and feel your lips, cheek and forehead muscles at work. When face muscles are contracted and released or worked with some resistance, the end result is naturally toner, tighter and plumper muscles facial muscles. No need for plastic surgery!

It’s recommended to practice face yoga at least two times a week in front of a mirror (because it’s the best place to watch and learn to isolate face muscles). It only takes a couple minutes to complete, and you can start to see improvement in three to four weeks.

Face Yoga Exercises

Before you begin, remember to try to keep your face from grimacing while doing these exercises, so you avoid creating new pucker and frown lines.

Surprise!

This exercise works with the muscle memory of the forehead to reduce wrinkles and widen eyes.

  • Begin by relaxing your face.
  • Widen your eyes (as if you were surprised).
  • Keep your forehead flat.
  • Hold for five to 10 seconds.

Prom Queen

The Prom Queen sculpts and lifts cheeks, widens eyes and trains the perfect smile.

  • Relax your face and upper cheeks.
  • Smile wide with the corners of your mouth.
  • Relax and widen your eyes.
  • Lift the brows without creasing your forehead.
  • Hold for five to 10 seconds.

Bottom Wink

The Bottom Wink claims to widen eyes, combat crow’s feet and smooth eye wrinkles.

  • Press the outside corner of your eye.
  • Push to apply resistance to the muscle.
  • Wink by isolating the lower eyelid five to 10 times.
  • Switch sides.

Pucker Up

This smooch-like exercise helps engage lips and stimulates collagen production to give them a plumper look.

    • Isolate and squeeze the muscles.
    • Hold for five to 10 seconds.

 

Satchmo

The Satchmo is named for horn players like Louis Armstrong, as it works he same as playing a trumpet to help create fuller lips.

  • Inhale a breath.
  • Swish air in the upper cheeks back and forth.
  • Switch left and right cheeks.
  • Exhale blowing out and holding the pucker.

Blow Smoke Rings

Pretend to blow smoke rings to engage collagen production and to promote fuller lips.

  • Blow out breaths (like blowing smoke rings).
  • And pucker the lips with a squeeze.
  • Blow 10 rings, rest and repeat

The Marilyn Monroe

The Marilyn Monroe helps create kissable lips with collagen activation.

  • Blow kisses to your fans, pressing your lips to your hand.
  • Squeeze 10 times, and repeat three times.

Bunny Nose

The Bunny Nose helps to smooth nasal crease lines.

  • Relax your face.
  • Push the creases on either side of your nose.
  • Apply resistance with your muscles.
  • Smile slightly to isolate your muscle.
  • Move your nose with a pulse (like a bunny).
  • Keep your brow and forehead flat for a subtle isolated movement.
  • Continue 20 times, and repeat 3 times

Smiling Fish Face

Can you pucker your lips and smile at the same time? Lift the cheeks into place by mastering Smiling Fish Face.

  • Pucker the lips together (like a fish).
  • Squeeze tight, and add a smile.
  • Hold for five to 10 seconds, repeat.

Lion Face

The Lion Face is an old yoga favorite that originated thousands of years ago. Use it tone the face muscles.

  • Inhale long, close your eyes, pucker your face and squeeze.
  • Exhale long, open your eyes, mouth and brows wide and release your tongue in a long stretch.

Brow Lift

Raise your brows to get rid of creases and wrinkles on the forehead.

  • Push on either side of your forehead.
  • Apply resistance to your forehead by pressing your temples.
  • Lift your brows to work the forehead muscles (without making wrinkles) 10 times.

Paradox Frown

The Paradox Frown is used to get rid of the frown line on the forehead – the paradox is to make the frown line first.

  • Frown your eyebrow.
  • Smooth the middle line with your fingers.
  • Apply resistance to muscles.
  • Hold the resulting smoothed forehead frown for 10 seconds.

Baby Bird

Smooth your neck and avoid developing jowls by adding the Baby Bird exercise to your face yoga routine.

  • Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth.
  • Elongate your chin.
  • Tilt your head left and swallow.
  • Tilt your head right and swallow.
  • Repeat 10 times.

Buddha Face

Finish with the Buddha Face to calm the muscles back into relaxation.

  • Close your eyes.
  • Relax your face.
  • Imagine a point between your brows.
  • Feel a smile inside.
  • Hold for minute or longer.
