How To Maintain Your Ideal Weight

Some people are blessed with a great body and a good weight, while other people struggle to keep weight off and maintain and healthy frame. It may be difficult to get on the scale, but knowing your numbers is important to meeting your goal. Take the challenge, find your weight, calculate your BMI, and know your statistics. Try these 10 ways to maintain your ideal weight.

Find Your BMI

If you are overweight, it can be intimidating to get on the scale and calculate your fat level. BMI stands for Body Mass Index. Calculating your BMI is the first step in knowing what your ideal weight is and how much extra weight you are caring.

Know Your Ideal Weight

What is your ideal weight? It depends upon your height, age, and frame size. There are charts available that will give you an idea of how much you should weigh. Consult with your personal healthcare professional to guide you.

Calculate Your RMR

RMR is your resting metabolic rate. Calculating your RMR will tell you how many calories you can burn every day. Remember that if you consume more calories than your body needs to function, the extra calories will be stored as fat. Calculate your RMR here.

Know Your Calories

How many calories can you consume a day and not gain weight? Once you calculate your RMR, then you know how many calories you can consume in a day. To maintain a healthy weight, do not consume more calories than you can burn. Use a calorie counter app to help you track foods and calories.

Keep A Food Journal

Keeping a journal of the foods you eat is a proven way to maintain your ideal weight. Sometimes we eat mindlessly and calories can add up quickly. Experts agree that keeping a food journal is a key element to weight loss. Be honest. Don’t deviate or skip days.

Incorporate Exercise

We all know the importance of exercising. Even if you are at your ideal weight, exercise is crucial to maintaining a healthy body and mind. Find a sport or exercise routine that you will stick to; one that you enjoy. Cycling, swimming, running, or become a gym rat. Do whatever it takes to get a daily dose of exercise.

Instill Good Habits

Habits. They are hard to break. The key is to avoid beginning a bad habit, such as smoking, excessive drinking/eating, or anything in excess. Maintaining a healthy weight requires a mind-body connection. If you are at your ideal weight, but smoke two packs of cigs a day, then are you truly at your ideal weight? It’s a question you must answer yourself. You may look like the epitome of health, but deep inside the cigs are taking a toll. Instill good habits so you can live and enjoy your family, friends, and surroundings.

Don’t Be Distracted

Things and people like to distract us from what is really important. Better known as emotional vampires, distractions can come in all shapes and forms, most generally people who are close to us that suck the life from us. Distractions can keep you from your ideal weight and total health. It all comes down to emotional eating. Avoid distractions. Don’t let people (or situations) steal your joy.

Find A Professional

If you are overweight or suffering from breaking a bad habit, seek professional help. Find a certified trainer, weight loss expert, professional nutritionist, or lifestyle coach. Do whatever it takes. Even if you are at your ideal weight, a monthly visit to a professional counselor can help you maintain your weight. There are many qualified people who can help you become the person you want to be.

Be Happy

At the end of the day, smile, and be happy. There is a link between happiness and weight loss. We all have something (or someone) that make us feel complete and content. Take time for vacations, outings, and family fun. Find a good masseuse, get a facial, pedicure, and manicure. Take time for you.

Besides all of the above, get plenty of sleep, too. After you find out your outside numbers (weight, BMI, RMR), find out your inside numbers. What’s going on inside. Have a complete physical and know your numbers; blood pressure, heart rate, etc. Take the time to take care of yourself. If you are at an unhealthy weight, make small attempts to shed unwanted pounds. Over time, a little goes a long way. Consult with a certified dietician or lifestyle coach to help you in your journey to be fit. Don’t wait another day. You can do it!
