Four Reasons That Could Land You in ER

Have you ever been to the emergency room (ER) of a hospital before? Many people walk past their local hospital every day, without ever having to think of the possibility that they may need to be rushed in there one day. Well, if you have never considered it before, here are four reasons you could be rushed to the ER.

Acute Chest Pain

In the medical world, chest pain usually comes on the heels of complicated health issues like heart problems or a stroke. If you feel a sharp (or even dull) pain in your chest, it means there is a serious problem that needs to be attended to, and you must make immediate plans to call your doctor or visit the emergency room of the nearest hospital. Even if the pain passes, you should still visit a doctor, as it is better to be safe than to be sorry.

Cuts and Bruises

While many people say that minor cuts and bruises are part of building character, those cuts and bruises should always be attended to, no matter how small they may appear. This is because when untreated, small cuts and bruises tend to get infected, leading to unwanted problems like tetanus of gangrene. Therefore, doctors advise that if you get cut or bruised up, head down to the emergency room of Guys and St. Thomas Hospital to get an immunization shot to stay safe.

Breathing Difficulties

Being unable to breathe, just like chest pain, is an indicator of a very serious problem. Many a time, it points to various issues like respiratory tract problems, heart attacks, allergies, or other precarious health challenges that might need to be addressed as quickly as possible. If you suddenly find yourself unable to breathe properly, you need to head you need to rush down to the ER as quickly as possible. Even if your breathing stabilizes, they will need to conduct any possible respiratory tract and allergy testing NHS requires they check in those instances.

Skin Rashes and Infections

The look of a person’s skin usually reflects the quality of her health. When you develop a rash or an infection, it usually is a sign that one of your major organs (such as your liver) is not functioning optimally. These infections are doubly unpleasant because you not only suffer internally but externally and visibly as well. If you are developing serious skin rashes or reactions that seem abnormal and are continually worsening, you should make a visit to the emergency room as soon as you possibly can.

Concussions and Trauma

Concussions are traumatic brain injuries that alter the way the brain functions. Hard blows typically cause these injuries to the head or by making the head shake violently. While the effects are often temporary, they can be very debilitating and include acute headaches, problems with focus, recall, coordination, and balance. In the Emergency room, a good proportion of the accidents that are reported are concussion-related. Due to the sensitive nature of the brain, any concussion-related injuries must be reported to the ER to keep the affected person safe.

While many people may stay safe and never need emergency services, you just might see someone going through one of the issues listed above. Make sure you get them to the ER of the nearest hospital as fast as you can!
