Yogurts

Natural yogurt is rich in protein, low in sugar and free of added chemicals. However, yogurts can vary in how beneficial they are, depending on which one you choose. Go for plain, non-sugar or sweetened yogurts, as some yogurt brands contain as much sugar as a fizzy drink.

Beans

Beans are incredibly good for your heart and are filled with fibre, making you feel fuller throughout the day. They’re also great for digestion, helping your body run smoothly.

Nuts

Nuts offer a natural source of protein, fibre and essential fats. A golf-ball sized portion of unsalted nuts provide a healthy and beneficial snack, chockfull of essential minerals and vitamins. You may be worried about the natural fats in nuts, however, most of these fats are actually heart healthy — so go ahead and indulge (in moderation!).

Chocolate

Yes, that’s right: chocolate is good for your heart. Multiple studies have proven that chocolate, and particularly the cocoa bean it comes from, strengthens the immune system. Chocolate also contains flavonoids, antioxidants and flavanols, helping your body repair any damage and improving the vascular system.

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are classed as a superfood and can be eaten raw or enjoyed as pomegranate juice. Rich in fibre, protein, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate and potassium, pomegranates are famous for their powerful anti-inflammatory effects, battling heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and even Alzheimer’s.
