Don’t worry; this is not an article about how to pick people up at the gym. What I am sharing today is something that is personally near and dear to my heart. Along with being a relationship coach, I’ve been a fitness fanatic for 25 years. And after 15 years of supporting clients, my coaching advice has always included fitness as part of their soulmate success plan.

As I’m sure you know, the biggest barrier to regular exercise is getting to the gym. I’m talking about those excuses we all make, like, “I don’t have the time,” or “I don’t have the energy…”

So the next time you’re looking for some workout motivation, think bigger-picture, and imagine how being fit will improve your day-to-day life — including your love life.

And while these benefits also apply if you’re happily coupled, if you’re single and looking, fitness can really help you step up your dating game. Here’s how.

1. Boosts Your Confidence

Ok, this one is obvious, but still worth mentioning. Many of us take pride in the way we present ourselves to the world. When we’re out of shape (even if we don’t necessarily look it!) we don’t always feel our best. It’s easy to become disconnected from your body when you’re not physically active. You may wear baggier clothes and be unwilling to show off your figure. Being physically fit gives you the confidence to wear those tight jeans with pride. Again, this isn’t about actual looks — because physical beauty is subjective, after all — but when you’re feeling your most fit, you’re more likely to be in tune with your body, appreciating it and loving all it does for you. Potential mates will sense your incredible confidence – increasing your attraction factor immensely (from the inside out!).

2. Keeps You Social

When you’re single, especially as we get older, our social networks tend to shrink, so there are fewer opportunities to meet new people. On our own, we’ll gravitate towards what’s safe and easy — our own, well-established friend groups – limiting the chance of interacting in mixed company and meeting someone new. Hitting the gym is a great, non-threatening way to soak up some male or female energy, plus, fitness classes are a great way to meet new people!

3. Improves Your Sex Life

When we’re in good shape, our hearts pump better and our lungs get more oxygen, which contributes to better endurance — including in the bedroom. Additionally, those feel-good hormones you get after a workout are incredibly powerful, and may help you get in the mood. Numerous studies have found a direct correlation between sexual satisfaction and physical exercise. Need we say more?

4. Triggers ‘The Ripple Effect’

When we focus on improving one area of our life, a ripple effect occurs, and we’re often inspired to sprinkle in other good habits as we go along. I’ve observed many clients, who, once they get fit, release a host of unhealthy habits in love – and money and business as well. Again, this snowball effect goes back to the happiness and confidence that fitness can provide. Endorphins are addictive; you’ll want to seek out other behaviours that also trigger positive emotions. Plus, you’ll have more confidence to get rid of the negative stuff in your life, like a toxic relationship, for example.

5. Gives You A Positive Outlook

If you’re single and a couch potato, it’s much easier to be constantly in your head, overanalyzing and worrying about not having someone special in your life. Not good. Fitness is a powerful mood shifter and can blast right through bleak thoughts, making you more hopeful and optimistic on the dating scene. Before your next date, squeeze in a 30-minute workout. You may find you go in with a more positive, less affected outlook.

When you’re happy, healthy, fit and confident, you’ll give off a magnetic, positive energy – rendering you totally irresistible.
