Life can be quick. It’s easy to get caught up with what can sometimes feel like an endless to-do list—that’s why it’s important to also focus on something very important: not doing, but being.
Our soul’s natural state is one of peace, calm, passion and bliss. When we nurture ourselves and, yes, our souls, we tune into that energy that brings with it the most connected, peaceful and passionate way of being.
Nurturing our soul begins with energy, emotions and the way we think. The radio station that plays inside our heads can affect whether we feel frenetic or peaceful, negative or positive, peaceful or in total chaos. The way we think, the way we feel, really does play an incredible role in how everything unfolds in our lives.
The cool thing? We can choose our thoughts. Sure, we may have unconscious tapes playing that we’re not aware of; with meditation though, we can start to become aware of our thoughts. With affirmations, we can actually start to re-wire the thoughts within our brains, creating for ourselves a new story to unfold.
An affirmation is like an internal radio, and the way we talk to ourselves is the energetic frequency we’re tuning into. Use a positive, present tense statement and associate an emotion with it to make it even more powerful. Below are six daily affirmations that you can add to your routine to help take care of your soul. Daily Affirmation 1: I Am Worth My Time
We all schedule meetings, work deadlines, workouts and after work activities. Why not schedule some soul time? It could be five minutes, 20 minutes, an hour, how ever long you have, just make sure you follow through with it. You could meditate, write, practice yoga, anything that helps strengthen your soul and feels good for you. You just have to make sure you do actually create time in your routine to work on your soul. An easy way to do this is to write what you want to do at what time of day and stick to it. Just thinking about doing something usually ends up in us forgetting to do it.
Daily Affirmation 2: I Am Proud of Myself
Here is a great exercise to help you get into a great mood at the end of every week. At the end of each week, celebrate one of your accomplishments. Big or small, whatever you achieved is a great success! Celebrate the project you worked hard to finish before a deadline, celebrate how you took the stairs instead of the elevator or celebrate how you ran that extra mile. Celebrate, too, that soulful work you did for yourself that felt sooo good! Celebrating yourself allows you to realize the positive things you have done, which gives you those feel-good feelings that’ll have you want to keep going.
Daily Affirmation 3: I Am Re-tuning Myself
Many people spend much of the day seated at work or stuffed in a cubicle, then go home to unwind by watching TV. Chilling out at your house is a good way to unwind, but you shouldn’t get stuck in a routine where you never leave your space. One of the greatest ways to get back in touch with your soul is to go outside. There is no ego in nature; you’ll find clarity there. It could be as simple as reading a book outside, or going for a relaxing hike in a nearby park. Breathing in fresh air allows you to clear your head, and the peacefulness of nature allows you to reflect on your life, tune into who you really are, and plan for what you want to accomplish in the future.
Daily Affirmation 4: I Am Achieving My Dream
What’s your passion, what sets your heart on fire? What is your dream in life? The first step is letting yourself dream big, and then allowing yourself to take the steps to get there. Often, something may start as a hobby, in volunteering or taking a class that will help you reach your goal. Your soul wants you to follow its voice, it wants to help you reach your dream, but you do need to put in the work. Following your dreams will let you learn new things, but also learn more about yourself. If you truly love what you want to achieve and you do achieve it, there is no better feeling in the world!
Daily Affirmation 5: I Am Expressing Myself Joyfully
With all the stress that work and life can bring, the best way to deal with it is talking to somebody you love, somebody who makes you happy, somebody who lifts you up! Talking to a positive person will help you deal with your problems, and feeling free to have a heartfelt conversation with someone you love can be so liberating. They can give you advice, or if they can’t, their positive energy will make you feel better. You should also lend your ear to them. If you ask somebody to listen to you, you should return the favor and listen to them. Having a two-way conversation is the best way for you and the other person to feel better.
Daily Affirmation 6: I Sing My Heart Out
There is something about singing that makes us feel great. We can do it in the shower, when we drive to work, when we are cooking, or when we are out for walks. Singing releases endorphins to your brain, which are natural chemicals that makes you feel happy. If you sing in front of a crowd, you will release endorphins and increase your confidence. It also helps reduce stress and anxiety because you focus on the lyrics and rhythm, which gives you mind a focal point for relaxation.
These are simple, effective affirmations to start focusing on your soul. Start saying these affirmations to yourself and let yourself see them, too. Practicing visualization can be very powerful as well. When you incorporate these activities into your daily routine, you get in tune with yourself and you can be so incredibly happy.
