5 Step Guide to Optimize your Mornings for a Productive Day

Have you ever asked someone, “did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?” The way you start your morning is usually a pretty big indicator of how the rest of your day is going to go. That is why it is so important that you have a proper morning routine set in place: a regular routine fit just for you will help you easily adjust to waking up every morning and starting your day off right! Did you realize that there is a step-by-step method to waking up and starting you day off right? Below is a guideline to help you optimize your mornings and start off on the right foot everyday!

1. Go to Bed Earlier

The first and most important step to optimizing your morning is actually completed the night before! The biggest issue for some people when it comes to waking up is the idea of setting an earlier bedtime for themselves. If you go to bed at an earlier time, it will make waking up much easier on you and your body the next morning. You do not have to go to bed extremely early, just make it an effort to hop into bed at an earlier time than you normally do. Your body will thank you for it, and your mornings will be much easier to handle as a result!

2. Wake Up to Music

The second step and biggest challenge is finding the strength to cut off the alarm and get moving! One way to achieve this is by waking up to one of your favorite songs. It will make it easier to wake up and give you the boost to get up and at it in the morning. Taking a shower, getting dressed, and even working out to your favorite playlist will help you get moving and make the dreadful morning seem just a bit happier! So get your playlist together and set it to play in the morning – you will be up and alert before you know it!

3. Get in a Small Workout

Next up, do a little bit of exercising! No, I am not telling you to go out and run 3 miles before you start your day! Do a short and quick stretch exercise will help to wake you up and get you going for the day ahead. The best part about it is that you do not even have to leave your bed to do it! Simply doing a few basic stretches in your bed, on the floor, or standing up will do the trick. Leg, back, and abdominal stretches are the best ones to do to really wake you up, but you can also get some time in for yoga if you would like!

4. Eat a Good Breakfast

The fourth step in the morning optimization process is to eat! Unfortunately, most people wake up so late or are so groggy that they opt out of even considering having breakfast, and that can turn out to be a huge mistake! Grabbing breakfast – a good and healthy breakfast – gives you energy for the early morning, making you more alert and focused on everything you need to do for the day! Having breakfast will also keep you from focusing on how hungry you are and what time lunch will start. So grab a parfait, a granola bar, or even some healthy cereal to set yourself well on your way to a productive day!

5. Plan Your Day

Step number five is one that most people dread, but it is necessary. The concept of planning your day out will help keep you from feeling overwhelmed in the morning. If you followed the previous three steps, you should have some time in the morning to sit down, eat your breakfast, and analyze your tasks for the day. Making a list of all of the things you need to do before you head off to work will help keep you organized, on task, and more effective throughout the workday. Giving yourself five or ten minutes to sit and jot things down will make things tremendously easier for you.
