10 Mouthwatering Donut Recipes

Everyone loves donuts. It is always exciting when someone brings a dozen donuts into work, or when you go out for coffee and donuts with a friend. The problem is, donuts are expensive. Learn how to make your own donuts and enjoy them whenever you want. We’ve collected our 10 favorite donut recipes for you to enjoy.

1. Cake Donuts

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 quarts oil for deep frying
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup white sugar

Stir together the flour, ½ cup sugar, baking powder, salt, one teaspoon of cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Pour in the milk, egg, butter, and vanilla and mix until well blended. Refrigerate for one hour.

Heat oil in a deep fryer to 370 degrees. Roll chilled dough out to ½ inch thickness, then cut out three inch circles, with smaller circles for the doughnut holes. Fry the doughnuts in oil until golden brown, turning once, then coat in cinnamon and sugar. Find the recipe here.

2. Jelly Doughnuts

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • a“ cup water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 tbsp margarine, melted
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 4 ½ cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup any flavor fruit jam
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying

In a bread machine pan, add butter, salt, sugar, bread flour, salt, nutmeg, and yeast. Set the machine to the sweet dough cycle. Once the dough cycle is completed, put the dough on a floured board and let sit for 10 minutes. Roll the dough out to ¼ inch thickness, then cut into 2 ½ circles. Place ½ teaspoon jam in the center of half of the dough circles. Place the other half of the dough circles on top, pinching the edges to seal them. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes, then fry the doughnuts in a deep fryer at 375 degrees. Find the recipe here.

3. Churros

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ½ tbsp white sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Combine water, 2 ½ tbsp sugar, salt, and two teaspoons vegetable oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball. 4. Apple Fritters

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart vegetable oil for deep-frying
  • 1 ½ cup flour
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • a” cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup cinnamon sugar

Heat the oil in your deep fryer to 375 degrees. In a large bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Pour in the milk, eggs, and oil and stir until blended. Mix in the apples. 5. Glazed Pumpkin Doughnuts

Donut Ingredients:

  • 1 cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter, softened

Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cup confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl, then add pumpkin puree, eggs, milk, and softened butter. Beat mixture with an electric hand mixer until combined well, then spoon onto the donut pan. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

Combine confectioners’ sugar, melted butter, water, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and then place on a separate sheet to cool. Find the original recipe here.

6. French Crullers

Ingredients:

  • 4 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 4 tbsp shortening
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ tbsp shortening
  • 1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 3 tbsp cream
  • a› tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Put four tablespoons sugar, salt, shortening, and orange zest in a saucepan with one cup hot water. Bring to a boil. Mix in one cup of flour. Cook until thick, stirring constantly, then remove from heat and cool slightly. Beat in one egg at a time. Using a rose tip, press dough through a pastry bag in the desired shape onto a well-greased square of paper. Turn paper upside down and let crullers drop into 375 degree oil. Fry until golden brown, then dry.

7. Beignets

Ingredients:

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • ¼ cup confectioners’ sugar

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt, eggs, evaporated milk, and blend well. Mix in four cups of the flour and beat until smooth. Add the shortening and the remaining three cups of flour. Cover and chill for 24 hours. Roll out dough an inch thick. Cut into 2 ½ inch squares. Fry in 360 degree oil until golden brown. 8. Funnel Cakes

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup confectioners’ sugar

Heat your deep fryer to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, beat milk and eggs together. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Stir into the egg mixture until smooth. While covering the funnel hole with one hand, pour in one cup of batter. Start from the center in a swirling motion to make a six inch round, then fry on both sides until golden brown and dry, then sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar and serve warm. Find the recipe here.

9. Spice Balls

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground mace
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¼ cup canola oil
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Heat your deep fryer to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, mix flour, cup of sugar, baking powder, salt, mace, and ½ teaspoon cinnamon. Mix in milk, canola oil, and egg. Drop the dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into the hot oil, and fry for two to four minutes or until golden brown, then dry and toss with sugar and cinnamon. Find the recipe here.

10. Buttermilk Doughnuts

Donut Ingredients:

  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup melted butter

Glaze Ingredients:

  • 3 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tbsp margarine, softened
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk

Heat oil in deep fryer to 375 degrees. Whisk buttermilk, white sugar, and eggs together in a bowl. In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Stir buttermilk mixture into flour mixture until combined, then add butter and knead until a soft dough forms. Roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness. Cut into donut shape.

Combine confectioners’ sugar, margarine, and vanilla extract together in a bowl until smooth, then gradually add milk until you achieve desired consistency. Cook doughnuts in hot oil until golden brown, then dry and dip donuts in glaze to coat. Find the recipe here.
