During World War I, United States President Woodrow Wilson, with the guidance of Herbert Hoover, asked Americans to eat less meat to help the war effort. President Wilson proclaimed every Tuesday ‘meatless’ and to eat one meatless meal every day. In 2003, the Center for a Livable Future, a division of the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, reinstated the campaign, proclaiming Meatless Monday.
