Six Power Smoothies to Boost Your Mind and Body

Smoothies are an excellent way to refuel before or after a workout, and they make a great meal replacement. Of course, you want to be careful what you put in a smoothie, because it can quickly go from an energy booster to a sugary treat. Try one of these smoothies that taste great while providing tons of health benefits.

1. Power Berry Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened soy protein powder

Instructions:

Combine all the ingredients together in a blender, and enjoy. This smoothie is about as basic as they come. The yogurt and protein powder will give you the protein boost you need before a workout, and the honey adds a little sweetness. Find the original recipe at Health Magazine.

2. Superfood Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 large bananas, frozen
  • 1 ½ cups of spinach
  • ½ of one large apple (chopped, leave the skin on)
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • 7 large strawberries

Instructions:

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and serve. This recipe serves two, so if you’re only making a smoothie for yourself, cut it in half. I really like this recipe because it uses frozen bananas, which is always fun. Just make sure to peel and chop the bananas before you put them in the freezer. Trying to peel a frozen banana is no fun. Get the recipe at Sally’s Baking Addiction.

3. Super Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups roughly chopped kale and spinach
  • 1 large banana, frozen
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut water
  • 2 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1 Tbsp flax oil
  • a› tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Make sure to puree the mixture until everything is thoroughly mixed and pulverized. This smoothie gets its color from the greens, and it might be a little off putting if you’re not used to veggie smoothies. The banana adds some sweetness though, and this smoothie is a sure way to power through any workout. Find the recipe at The Kitchn.

4. Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • ½ medium banana, frozen
  • ½ cup frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender, then enjoy. This smoothie delivers on flavor and nutrition. The blueberries provide antioxidants, while the oats give you lots of fiber. Using Greek yogurt gives you lots of protein, so this smoothie is great for mornings or pre-workout snacks. Get the recipe from Kitchen Treaty.

5. Kiwi and Chia Seed Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups almond milk
  • 1 ½ cups spinach
  • 1 banana, frozen
  • 1 ripe kiwi, peeled
  • 2 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 Tbsp wheat grass powder
  • ½ tsp maca powder

Ingredients:

Throw everything in a blender and blend until smooth. This recipe is amazing because it has chia seeds, which are an incredible superfood that taste great and are packed full of nutrients, not the least of which are omega-3 fatty acids. Honestly, I put chia seeds in almost all my smoothies. Find the recipe at Joy the Baker.

6. Apple Almond Flax Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 large apple, chopped
  • ½ banana, frozen
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1 Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup coconut milk
  • 1 cup kale

Instructions:

Blend everything together until smooth, then enjoy. This recipe is a really tasty concoction with a lot of rich flavors. The flaxseed is another superfood your body will thank you for, and having an apple in your smoothie is never a bad decision. Get the recipe at She Knows.
