Top Five Tasty Meatloaf Recipes

In need of some comfort food? Try homemade meatloafs of every flavor, meat, and style. From a venison specialty to momma’s recipe, let the tastebuds delight at the comforts of savory home cooking with a bit of warm gravy.

1. Momma’s Healthy Meatloaf

For a healthy dose of mom’s home cooking, try Momma’s Healthy Meatloaf.

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup diced sweet onion
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 pound extra-lean (95%) ground beef
  • 1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup shredded carrot
  • 3/4 cup shredded zucchini
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup ketchup, or to taste

Preheat oven to 400 degrees, and prep the pan with cooking spray. Add olive oil to a sauce pan on medium heat, and stir in onions and green peppers until transparent ( five to 10 minutes). Add the garlic last, for no longer than two minutes. Combine with the remaining ingredients to form the loaf, and bake until 160 degrees or no longer pink.

2. Savory Venison Meatloaf

Try an alternative meat during deer season with Venison Meatloaf.

  • 1 pound ground venison
  • 1 egg
  • 1 (4 oz.) packet saltine crackers, finely crushed
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp dried sage
  • 1/2 tsp steak seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 slices bacon

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Add all the ingredients (except the bacon!) to a bowl and mix together to form a loaf. Squeeze this loaf into a pan and dress it with bacon strips to line the top. Bake the loaf for 35 minutes or until no longer pink at 160 degrees.

  • 3/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

While it cooks, stir together the remaining ingredients into a sauce pan. Warm over the stove on medium heat stirring with a whisk constantly. When the loaf is finished, add this sauce over the top.

3. Mouthwateringly Tangy Pineapple Meatloaf

For those who simply cannot resist sweet and sour flavors, try the Tangy Pineapple Meatloaf.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup chopped green and red bell pepper
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup pineapple preserves
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder, or to taste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Preheat the oven at 350 degrees, then bust out the food processor. Throw together all the ingredients and mix them in the food processor before forming the loaf. Add this to a loaf pan, and stick it in the oven for 30 minutes. Don’t forget the sauce!

  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup pineapple preserves
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

While waiting, mix together the ingredients to make the sauce in a bowl. When the meatloaf is no longer pink in the middle (or 160 degrees) add the sauce to the top for delicious flavor.

4. Healthier Brown Sugar Meatloaf

For a meatloaf recipe with less fat and added sugar, go with the Healthier Brown Sugar Meatloaf.

  • 3 Tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 3/4 cup low-fat (1%) milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees, and lightly grease the 9×5 pan for the loaf. Press brown sugar into the pan and top with ketchup. Mix together the remaining ingredients in a bowl to form the loaf, and rest it atop the ketchup-lined pan. Bake for about one hour or until no longer pink at 160 degrees.

5. Creamy Mushroom Meatloaf

For a moist loaf with the most flavor-filled drizzle to the top, go with the Creamy Mushroom Meatloaf.

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 (2 1/2 pound) uncooked prepared beef, veal and pork meatloaf

Start by preheating the oven to 325 degrees. Sautee the mushrooms on medium-high in a skillet with the butter and a pinch of salt, and add the rosemary until brown (five to eight minutes). Whisk in the beef broth (avoid clumping!), and turn up the heat to reach a nice simmer until sauce thickens. Remove from heat and add heavy cream. Spoon sauce over meatloaf, and bake the loaf for 1 ½ hours until there’s no pink left in the center.
