The Best Post-Sex Food
Since making love is a form of mild to moderate exercise, try to think about your post-sex meals almost as post-workout meals. Your body is capable of absorbing more carbs and protein in the half hour or so after a workout than any other time. If you don’t rebuild your body’s stores of glycogen and protein, you won’t be able to maximize the benefit of your workout and continue to grow stronger. The foods you’re mainly looking for should be packed full of carbs and protein.
Of course, sex isn’t only a workout; it’s an enjoyable, rewarding activity that makes you and your partner feel good and connected. So choose foods that make you happy, too!
These are some of our favourite foods to refuel with after doing the deed.
1. Chocolate Milk
First up, chocolate milk. Unless you’re lactose intolerant, I’m guessing you love chocolate milk. I never used to think of it as a healthy drink, but now I always keep a few bottles in the fridge to refuel after a run or an romp in the sack with my partner. It not only tastes delicious, but it’s a great source protein and carbs. Plus, chocolate milk is a great way to rehydrate after sex.
Okay, but why chocolate milk, exactly? A study found that the 4 to 1 ratio of carbs to protein is perfect for muscle recovery fuel after an endurance workout. In addition, it provides glycogen, sodium and fluids that help as well. Go for low-fat chocolate milk to reap the most benefits. In addition to its many benefits, chocolate milk is a tasty and delicious treat — perfect for a post-sex snack.
2. Greek Yogurt
If you’re a fan of Greek yogurt, it makes for an easy and delicious post sex snack. It has way more healthy fats and protein than regular yogurt, which makes it especially good for muscle recovery. Try adding in some cereal for carbs and some fresh berries for other vitamins and nutrients.
Greek yogurt is ideal for post-sex recovery because it is high in protein, but low in sugar. The protein can help aid in muscle recovery without adding a lot of extra sugar to your diet.

3. Apples And Cheese
Next up is apples and cheese. This one is probably my favourite. Slice up an apple and some of your favourite cheese for you and your partner after you have worn each other out. This snack is fun to share and it will satisfy your hunger while giving you the carbs and protein you need. Choose your cheese carefully, because some are better for you than others. The same could be said of apples. I usually go with a honey crisp apple if it’s in season, and some cheddar cheese.
Why eat this? Carbs and protein are the magic bullet when it comes to muscle recovery after a workout. The carbs help fuel your body to give you more energy while the protein helps your muscles repair to build back stronger for the next time you are in between the sheets.
4. Hydrate With Cucumber Water
As previously mentioned, you should always stay hydrated, but it’s especially important after sex. During a rigorous exercise, you lose a lot of moisture that needs to be replaced. Have a glass of water ready, or get up and get one after you’re done. You’ll recover faster and your body will thank you for it.
By staying hydrated and choosing a healthy snack to eat, you’ll speed your recovery time and satisfy your cravings without expanding your waistline.
What To Eat Before Sex
What about a pre-love-making pick-me-up? Eat these foods before sex and you’ll reap the benefits between the sheets.
