Ingredients

  • Apple(s) without skin, raw | 4.00 cup slices
  • Lemon juice, raw | 1.00 tbsp
  • Granulated sugar | 0.25 cup
  • Spices, cinnamon, ground | 0.50 tsp
  • Spices, nutmeg, ground | 0.25 tsp
  • Low fat milk, with vitamin A and D | 0.25 cup
  • Molasses | 1.00 serving 1 tbsp
  • French bread | 2.00 oz
  • Self-rising enriched wheat flour | 0.50 cup
  • Brown sugar | 0.25 cup packed
  • Butter without salt | 0.25 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Peel and then dice the apples.
  2. Combine apples, lemon juice and granulated sugar in a large bowl.
  3. Sprinkle apple mixture with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; toss well.
  4. Combine milk, molasses and vanilla in a medium bowl.
  5. Add bread to milk mixture; toss to combine.
  6. Add bread mixture to apple mixture; toss to combine.
  7. Spoon bread mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish coated with cooking spray.
  8. Lightly spoon flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Combine flour and brown sugar; cut in chilled butter using a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles small pebbles.
  9. Sprinkle brown sugar mixture over apple mixture.
  10. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  11. Serve warm.
