Ingredients

  • Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, calcium-fortified | 1.00 cup
  • Applesauce, canned, unsweetened, without added ascorbic acid | 1.00 cup
  • Egg, whole, raw | 2.00 medium
  • Canola oil | 0.33 cup
  • Granulated sugar | 1.00 cup
  • Cocoa powder, unsweetened | 0.25 cup
  • Baking powder | 0.50 tsp
  • Baking soda | 0.50 tsp
  • Salt | 0.25 tsp
  • Hazelnuts | 0.50 cup, chopped

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9” square pan after preheating the oven to 350°F.
  2. Fold cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt in a separate bowl with flour.
  3. In another bowl, combine sugar, eggs, oil and applesauce and whisk. Add vanilla and whisk. Add dry ingredients to wet and combine with a whisk. Add nuts or chocolate chips or toffee, if you prefer.
  4. Bake for half hour or until sides separate from the pan. Dust with confectionery sugar when pan has cooled, serve sliced.
