Ingredients

  • Butter without salt | 4.00 tbsp
  • Spices, fennel seed | 1.00 tbsp, whole
  • Granulated sugar | 2.00 tsp
  • Salt | 1.00 dash
  • Spices, pepper, black | 1.00 dash
  • Fennel, bulb, raw | 0.25 bulb
  • Apples, raw, with skin | 4.00 large 3-1/4" dia
  • Onions raw | 1.00 medium 2-1/2" dia

Instructions

  1. Mix softened butter with fennel seeds, sugar, and salt and pepper to taste; use some of the mixture to grease a baking dish.
  2. Rub 4 cored apples inside and out with the remaining butter mixture.
  3. Place 4 thick onion rounds in the dish and top with the buttered apples.
  4. Add a quartered fennel bulb to the dish.
  5. Bake at 425°F until the apples are soft, 1 hour.
  6. Serve immediately.
