- Put the peeled and finely diced apples into a 1.25-quart baking dish.
- Sprinkle with sugar, dot with butter
- Bake, uncovered, at 450 F 20 minutes, or until fork-tender, basting occasionally.
- Remove baking dish from oven and apples from baking dish.
- Combine cornstarch, water and vanilla extract; add to milk.
- Stir into liquid in baking dish. return apples to baking dish.
- Bake an additional 8 to 10 minutes, or until sauce is thickened.
- To serve, spoon sauce over each apple.
