Ingredients

  • Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, calcium-fortified | 1.13 cup
  • Granulated sugar | 1.00 cup
  • Apple(s) without skin, raw | 3.00 cup slices
  • Lemon juice, raw | 1.00 tbsp
  • Spices, cinnamon, ground | 0.50 tsp
  • Spices, nutmeg, ground | 0.25 tsp
  • Salt | 0.33 tsp
  • Butter without salt | 8.00 tbsp
  • Brown sugar | 0.25 cup packed
  • Baking powder | 3.00 tsp
  • Drinking water | 0.25 cup 8 fl oz

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the peeled and cored apples, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/8 cup flour, lemon juice, 1/8 tsp salt, cinnamon and nutmeg and let the mixture stand for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Sift 1 cup flour, sugars, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  3. Use a fork or pastry cutter to cut in the butter till it resembles peas or coarse sand and then pour in 1/4 cup boiling water.
  4. Spread the apples in a 10 inch round baking dish and dot with butter.
  5. Coat with the cobbler batter and bake in a preheated 425°F oven for 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
