Ingredients

  • Black currants, raw | 1.00 cup
  • Medjool dates | 1.00 cup pitted and chopped
  • Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched | 2.25 cup
  • Baking soda | 1.00 tsp
  • Spices, allspice, ground | 0.50 tsp
  • Spices, cinnamon, ground | 0.50 tsp
  • Salt | 0.25 tsp
  • Shortening household soybean hydrogenated and palm | 0.50 cup
  • Brown sugar | 0.50 cup packed
  • Egg, whole, raw | 2.00 medium
  • Whole milk with added vitamin D | 3.00 tbsp
  • Seedless golden raisins | 1.00 cup, packed

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, walnuts, baking soda, allspice, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In small saucepan over low heat, melt shortening and honey, stirring constantly.
  3. Remove from heat and pour into large bowl.
  4. Stir in brown sugar, eggs and milk until well blended. Slowly add dry ingredients.
  5. Fold in raisins, currants and dates. Cover and chill for 4 hours.
  6. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  7. Grease cookie sheets. Drop by spoonfuls 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
  8. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly colored.
