- Dice the tomatoes first. Clean and cook the bacon and set aside. Heat the pan again; add garlic, carrot, celery and onions cook until tender. Add vegetable broth and tomatoes and bring to a boil. Now add lentils and let it simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. Season with thyme, oregano and basil. Crush the bacon and sprinkle over it.
