  • Cream of tartar | 1.00 tsp
  • Baking soda | 0.50 tsp
  • Salt | 1.00 dash
  • Butter salted | 4.00 tbsp
  • Powdered sugar | 2.00 tbsp unsifted
  • Reduced fat milk with added vitamin A and D | 5.00 fl oz
  • Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, calcium-fortified | 1.00 cup

  1. Separate one fl oz of milk in a small bowl, to glaze scones.
  2. Sift the flour with salt, baking soda and cream of tartar in a separate bowl. Rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar and add just enough milk to form soft dough.
  3. Turn the dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead it gently until smooth. Roll out to 3/4 inch thick and cut into 2 inch circles and place them on baking tray. Now use brush to glaze with 1 fl oz milk.
  4. Bake now for 10 minutes on high temperature then shift to a wire rack to cool. Serve scones with salted butter and cream or use jam.
