Ingredients

  • Apple(s) without skin, raw | 1.00 large 3-1/4" dia
  • Spices, cinnamon, ground | 0.50 tsp
  • Italian bread | 16.00 oz
  • Egg, whole, raw | 3.00 medium
  • Low fat milk, with vitamin A and D | 1.50 cup
  • unsweetened canned apple juice | 1.00 cup
  • Brown sugar | 0.25 cup packed
  • Spices, nutmeg, ground | 0.25 tsp
  • Caramel sauce, non fat | 16.00 oz
  • Pecans | 1.00 cup, chopped

Instructions

  1. Sauté apple and 1/4 tsp cinnamon in a lightly greased skillet over medium-high heat for 2 minutes or until tender.
  2. Stir together bread and apple in an 11- x 7-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, apple juice, brown sugar, vanilla, nutmeg and remaining 1/4 tsp. cinnamon; pour over bread mixture in baking dish.
  4. Cover and chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350°.
  5. Bake bread mixture 45 to 50 minutes or until top is crisp and golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with Toasted Pecan-Caramel Sauce.
