Working Out at a Gym for the First Time? Here’s a Guide!

Going to the gym isn’t a walk in the park. You’ll have a lot of things to consider for safety and progress. Therefore, you might want to check out the list of tips below.

  1. Fitness Instructor

The best way to approach this endeavor for the first time is to seek the advice of a professional. A fitness instructor will help you go through your daily tasks successfully while ensuring your safety and progress.

It is a fitness instructor’s job to make sure that you reach your goal. They’ll also be available whenever you have concerns about your development and health. You can ask for their advice anytime that you want.

Have a personal trainer that guides you through the basics. This way, you can start correctly, and that is the most important thing that you should keep in mind. In the gym, there’s no other way to do things… but correctly. Otherwise, progress will be slow or there will be no progress at all, and worse, you can get a broken limb or two.

  1. Safety First

In the gym, you’ll be surrounded by heavy weights ranging from 5lbs to a hundred. You’ll be lifting those weights too, and those heavy loads plus improper form will result in a disaster.

Safety first! If there’s one thing that you should have in mind while at the gym, it’s safety! You won’t be reaching your aesthetic goal if you’re stuck in the hospital.

Proper form is a must. That is why we advise you to acquire the services of a personal trainer, but besides form, there’s more.

You should know about your health and past injuries. Are you ready to go to the gym? Do you have health conditions that do not allow you to tire yourself out? If you aren’t sure, you must consult your doctor. If you have had injuries before, you should also consult a doctor

  1. Learn

You don’t do something for the first time and you’re instantly a pro. It just doesn’t work that way, especially when working out in the gym.

In order to achieve the progress that you want to achieve, you will need to learn. There are different strategies that you can use in the gym depending on what your goal is. You will need to try things out to find out what works best for you. Learn from your mistakes. Learn from other people’s success.

How can you learn better?

Takedown notes. List down the exercises that you do: the number of reps and sets. Study your progress — how much weight you add every week or so. Do some research! It will help a lot.

  1. Take it Slow

Weight loss or weight gain will not happen overnight but over time and hardwork.

Don’t be in a hurry. If you’re starting to feel disappointed with the results you’re getting weekly, chill! Your body needs time to adapt to your regimen and diet. If you’re trying to lose weight, 4-8 pounds is what you can drop in a month in a safe manner. If you’re trying to build mass, one to two pounds of muscle is what you can gain in a month.

Also, make sure that you’re doing things right. If you’re pretty sure that you aren’t gaining or losing anything, you’re doing the wrong exercises or the right ones wrongly.

  1. Eat Right

Don’t focus too much on how much weight you can lift or how many kilometers you can run. Eat right. Food is just as important as the exercise you’re getting. Without it, you’ll be off track.

Stay away from junk foods. Discipline will be your friend on this journey.

Be consistent!

You can get the results you’ve wanted for years, but that’s not the end of the road. Keep going. Make exercise a habit and eating healthy a part of your lifestyle.
