What to Expect After You Get Botox
Botox is FDA-approved for treating hyperhidrosis, migraines, fine lines and more. The procedure is non-invasive and requires no downtime.
Botox is injected into desired sites on the body or face using a small needle. Considering that the process is seamless and quick, there is not much you will need to do on your part before or after the procedure.
Still, there are some things to plan for after you undergo the treatment; have realistic expectations for how long Botox will last, and know what to avoid and what to expect:
Subtle Changes After Several Days
Botox typically takes anywhere between 5 to 8 days to show results. You can always book a follow-up appointment to assess the progress you’ve made. That said, don’t expect immediate, drastic changes — because you will be disappointed.
It’s important to have realistic expectations. After all, Botox can be incredibly subtle — which is a good thing. Don’t be misled by the myth that it will change your face completely and leave you unrecognizable.
Potential Redness and Swelling
\
Don’t be alarmed if you experience redness or swelling after the fact — this should go down roughly half an hour after the treatment.
Hold Off Exercising for 24 Hours
Refrain from exercising for a good day after your treatment — this is a precaution to make sure that the Botox doesn’t move around. It’s suggested that you don’t do any strenuous activity for 24 hours after the procedure so that the solution settles.
No Pain!
You’ll probably be surprised when you feel no pain or discomfort after your procedure. You will feel minimal discomfort while the solution is injected, but afterwards, it will feel like nothing happened at all.
This is because experienced medical clinics will typically use very small needles to administer the solution.
Don’t Touch
You may want to touch your skin to try to assess any changes, but it’s better not to. Touching the site where you were injected can cause irritation, spread the Botox, and make it harder for your skin to recover.
That said, don’t touch your face for at least 6 hours after the treatment. After the 6 hours pass, you’re welcome to rinse or wash the injection site.
Results Fading After a Minimum of Three Months
The results of Botox differ from person to person. How long the procedure will last is dependent on various factors like your skin type, age and lifestyle. Botox should last at least three months, but in some cases, results can actually last up to 6 months.
Having to Go for More Injections
With that said, anticipate having to return for more after the results have faded. Your treatments will likely become a routine — if you want to maintain the results, you will have to get more Botox every 3-6 months.
Back to Regular Programming
Ultimately, after your treatment, you’ll be surprised that you can resume regular programming —meaning you can get right back into your routine!
If you schedule your procedure a couple of days before a vacation, nothing will keep you from you enjoying your time on the beach with a drink in hand!
