The 22-Pushup Challenge seeks to bring attention to the 22 veterans who commit suicide every day. It works very much like the Ice Bucket Challenge formula: Participants film themselves doing 22 push-ups, and then they nominate two more people to complete the challenge after them. The video is posted on social media, along with the hashtags, #22pushup for #22Kill.
If you can’t do 22 push-ups, that’s OK, too – the campaign allows you to do as many or as few as you want, adjusting your hashtag accordingly (#5pushups for #22Kill, for example).
Started by 22Kill.com, the campaign aims to get 22 million pushups, “To honour those who serve and to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention through education and empowerment,” according to the website.
Stars who have joined in on the campaign so far include Dwayne “The Rock Johnson,” Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Scott Eastwood and John Krasinki.
Meanwhile, celebrities like Jim Parsons, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Justin Timberlake have already been challenged, so stay tuned for those upcoming videos!
